What is an Eco-friendly Stretch Film?

Eco friendly stretch film is a type of plastic film and belongs to the stretch family that is produced from biodegradable additives such as PLA, PBAT, or starch. It is designed to decompose rapidly after use under suitable environmental conditions. The decomposition process of eco-friendly stretch film involves additives like polyadipate in copolyester blends, which enhance clingability and reduce hydrophobicity, thus aiding the decomposition process with the help of microorganisms.

Features of Eco-friendly Stretch Film

Biodegradability: The most important and defining feature of biodegradable stretch film is compostability; according to ASTM D6400 (USA) and EN 13432 (Europe) standards, some products fully decompose in industrial compost within 90 days.

Similar Physical Performance to Traditional Films: Some might think that the special additives used in the production of this stretch film could compromise its key characteristics like physical strength and tensile strength. However, this is not the case, and the additives do not affect its performance.

Low Carbon Footprint: Eco friendly stretch films are often made from bio-based sources such as PLA (polylactic acid) or PBAT, which unlike conventional polyethylene, are not derived from petroleum. This results in a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions during production, as the extraction and processing of petroleum materials entail higher emissions.
