1. What is Lubricant Masterbatch?
In order to facilitate the production process and add desired features to polymer products, various types of additive masterbatches are used. One of the most commonly used types is the lubricant masterbatch. This product is a polymeric material composed of polymeric base materials such as polyethylene, polypropylene, and chemical lubricants. The main application of this material is to prevent adhesion between polymer materials and sheets during the production process and afterward.
3 Main Types of Lubricant Masterbatches
Lubricant masterbatches are divided into several categories based on their type of use, which we will discuss below:
Internal Lubricant: Since raw polymer materials initially have stickiness and strong molecular chains, they may not melt and deform properly during the production process. By adding this lubricant, the molecular structure of the materials becomes looser, transitioning from a solid to a more paste-like state, making it easier to reshape.
External Lubricant: This lubricant helps prevent polymer materials from sticking to the hot surface of the machine. Unlike the previous type, this material reduces the adhesion of the plastic material to the surface.

Multipurpose Lubricant: This type is essentially a combination of the two previous types and simultaneously reduces the adhesion within and outside the polymer material.
Important Note: Please be careful when using lubricants; use an appropriate amount, as excessive use may lead to a significant decrease in the viscosity of the polymer material and cause damage.
Choosing the Right Lubricant Masterbatch
This material is notably sensitive in production, and when selecting this substance, several key criteria should be considered, which we will discuss further:
Compatibility with the base polymer
As mentioned earlier, the masterbatch must be compatible with the main polymer (such as polyethylene, polypropylene, etc.) to ensure optimal performance and uniformity in the final product.
Production process temperature
Lubricants should maintain stable temperatures during the production process. For example, silicone or fluoropolymer compounds are more suitable for high-temperature processes.

Type of production process
The masterbatch should be compatible with the production process, such as extrusion, injection molding, or polymer film production. For instance, in the extrusion process, reducing friction with the equipment walls is essential.
4 Properties of the final product
The lubricant should not compromise the mechanical and physical properties of the final product, such as tensile strength or flexibility. For sensitive applications, lubricants with specific performance traits, such as improved surface smoothness, are utilized.
Economic considerations
The selection of this material should be cost-effective and optimized in terms of consumption (usually 1-5%), without negatively affecting the quality of the process or the final product.
