What is a Printable Shrink Film?
Printable shrink film is a type of plastic film that allows for printing various designs and images on its surface, and it shrinks significantly when heat is applied. Printable shrink is made from specific compounds compared to other shrink film types, typically constructed from heat-shrinkable PVC and marked with the label “printable.” Products that can be made include keychains, accessories, and more.
Features of Printable Shrink Film
Shrink Ratio: As mentioned in the introduction, printable shrink film shrinks and decreases in size when heat is applied. The shrinkage of most samples reduces to 50-70% of the original size, or in other words, remains about 30-50% of the initial dimensions.
Compatibility with Printers: For printing images, always use INKJET printers; laser printers are not recommended, as their internal heat can melt the film or damage the device.
Material and Surface Coating: This shrink film is made from heat-shrinkable PVC with special ink-absorbent and shrink-resistant coatings. Some versions feature a Super Sanded (textured and abrasive) surface for added appearance and durability.
Thickness and Form: Typically, available in sheets with a thickness of about 0.010 inches (0.254 mm). Custom thickness versions can also be ordered.
