Guide to Purchasing Mineral Water Preform
In the production of mineral water bottles, and in general, bottles made from polyethylene and polyethylene terephthalate, preforms are initially used. A preform is a polymer product shaped like a tube with a threaded neck, which is resistant and has significant thickness, serving as the initial shape of the bottles. The production of this product is carried out by injection molding machines, where raw materials are placed inside the machine, and through the molding process, the preform is produced.
But why is it necessary to first design a specific shape for this product, and why isn’t it produced in a single mold from the beginning like other products?
The reason for this is that polyethylene materials and the compounds used in the production of mineral water bottles are unstable and weak during injection and molding, a sturdier form must first be created, and then the final product is produced by injection of air.
Advantages of Using Preforms
This product is, first and foremost, economical and cost-effective, and second, due to the use of polyethylene compounds, it is biodegradable and recyclable.
There are no limitations in the production of this product, and it offers a high variety. Another important aspect is maintaining the quality of the contents inside the bottle over a certain period and preventing the escape of gases for carbonated beverages.
Types of Preforms
While preforms do not differ significantly in their final use, it is worth noting that there are various types of preforms for different applications. Understanding this can assist you in selecting the preform that meets your needs. We will address these points further.
Transparent Preforms
One of the most widely used and recognized type of preforms is the transparent one, typically used in mineral water bottles, soft drinks, and fruit juices. The purpose of this product is to display the contents inside the bottle and the purity of the product.
Colored Preforms
Bottles can also be colored; in this case, it is necessary to use a colored preform. The reason for this is both the aesthetic and the protective aspect, shielding the contents of the bottle from UV rays.
Short Neck Preform
This article addresses the differences between short neck and normal neck bottles, but in general, short neck means a smaller opening, suitable for small bottles. This product is typically available in two sizes: 26 mm and 28 mm.
Normal Neck Preform
This is the standard and regular size of a bottle neck used in most mineral water bottles and other consumer bottles. This product is offered in two sizes: 28 mm and 30 mm.
