What is Mica Masterbatch?

Mica masterbatch is an additive material that increases the physical, thermal, and electrical insulation resistance of plastic products, thereby extending the product’s lifespan in the long term.

This Masterbatch is made from the combination of mineral mica particles, which are a layered silicate, and base polymers such as polyethylene and polypropylene.

Mica masterbatches come in several different forms, including: muscovite, which is nearly white and gray, phlogopite, which is mostly brown and depends on the amount of iron oxide present, biotite, which is dark brown to black, and lepidolite, which is white and gray.

Characteristics of Mica Masterbatch

Electrical Insulation: This material can create a layer on the surface of plastic products that is resistant to electric current and prevents its passage through the product.

Reduction of Shrinkage and Warping: The chemical compositions of this material can enhance the stability of the product and maintain shrinkage and expansion variations during the manufacturing process, preventing the product from warping and deforming.

High Thermal Resistance: In addition to physical strength, this material can also increase the thermal resistance threshold of the product. If you are interested in heat-resistant masterbatch you can read it on our blog section.

Applications of Mica Masterbatch

Electronics Industry: Mica is widely used in the manufacture of electronic components to prevent electrical connections in its parts.

Pipes and Fittings: Due to the pressure and heat in piping, this material increases the physical strength of the pipes.

Automotive Industry: Those who own a Mercedes-Benz S-Class will notice this aspect. This substance is used to polish the surface of luxury cars.

Packaging: Interestingly, many large producers of sustainable and innovative packaging for the food and beverage industry, utilizes advanced polymer composites of this material
