What is BOPP Pearlized Film?
BOPP Pearlized film, or pearlized biaxially oriented polypropylene film, is an innovative type of flexible plastic film that combines unique aesthetics with outstanding technical performance. This film features a three-layer co-extruded A/B/A structure, where:
• The middle layer (B) is a blend of polypropylene and pearlizing additives such as calcium carbonate or specific pigments. During the biaxial stretching process, these additives create very fine voids (micro-voids), which are the main contributors to the pearl effect of the film.
• The surface layers (A) are usually made of polypropylene with adhesive and sealing capabilities, protecting the middle layer in post-processing processes such as printing and laminating.
Features of BOPP Pearlized Film
Low density: (0.76 g/cm³) compared to regular BOPP (~0.91 g/cm³), indicating the film’s lightweight and color-light structure.
High gloss: (Gloss ≥260%) and very low haze (Haze ≤0.5%) create a clear and shiny appearance with a pearl effect.
High tensile strength: Like other plastic films, it offers good resistance and durability under mechanical stresses in packaging lines.
Applications of BOPP Pearlized Film in Industry
Food industry: For packaging food products where product visibility and appearance are priorities, this film can be a suitable option, and it also protects the product from light and moisture.
Soaps and detergents: Used for packaging and protecting detergents such as soap, etc.
Cosmetic packaging: The luxurious pearl effect is suitable for packaging that values appearance along with protection.
